ABOUT "HISTORIAN"

Trapped in a world that sees no hope Maroghini " paints" the way out in his album " Historian".

The music represents another showpeace of "New Age Reggae".

Maroghini's wisdom's arrangement guides the vocal messages. It lures you to understand the Magi's command of the serpent.

The music is basically roots Reggae with a tinge of other musical genres here and there. It is oftentimes classified as World Beat Reggae owing to the ecclectic nature of the musical style.

The very profound mystical, positive and conscious lyrics carry us through from the River Nile to the ills which prey on our existence; pollution, the greed for money and the absence of love. The hope lies in the acceptance of several truths says Maroghini--"the recognition that nature can sustain itself and humanity , satisfying all the spiritual and physical hunger and that the heaven in us can sustain us for the greater reality".

"Historian" will satisfy the desire for good music. Acoustic insruments lie intimate with those electronic to create rhythms easy to the ear-----the panacea for the stressful day. Some will connect to its mystical outpourings, skilfully tucked in the lyrics and the tune. If you understand "Historian" then you will understand that it is a record of life.

The production of "Historian" was in answer to the compulsion to deliver an urgent message, a command executed in a dream, a mandate to fulfil within a specific time.

Maroghini is motivated by excellence and is very sensitive to the experiences of life. It was therefore natural that those selected to play on historian were well chosen. Some, like himself were members of Saraba, the Senegalese, West African , pop-african band one of the most rated of its kind in Germany. Saraba was winner of Germany's coveted national Senat Wettbewerb Rock music competition "Rock News Berlin" in 1983. In 1991 the group's album "Fire of Passion" was number 1 on the world beat music charts in Holland, another plus for a band highly respected in Europe and Africa.

Others on Maroghini's album, have backed the world's greats ------- Stevie wonder, the Temptations and George Benson.

The tracks featured on this website are not signed to any major recording companies. As a result, Maroghini is able to present an uncompromised non-commercial musical artistry free from the dictates of a Recording company whose primary interest is often the acquisition of financial profit.

THE SONGS

1. Stop This Pollution

An exhortation to cease from destroying mother earth. Another fine example of world beat reggae. The video for this track was featured at the earth summit conference in brazil in 1991, the year this track was first released. The ministry of natural resources and conservation in Jamaica currently shows this same video in schools throughout the island as a means of sensitizing children to environmental issues

2.Mammon World Empire

"Because of this something that keeps on glistening so many people are fighting". This song decries materialism and instead elevates the power of mind over matter and the supremacy of positive moral values.

3. Manna Tree

The music of the snake charmer opens the gate to freedom and true life, long discovered by the birds. The key that locks poverty resides in the Manna Tree--the food for all needs, the light of the glory. The music fuses the the rhythms of Egypt and the Orient with Dance Hall reggae.

4.Historian

The title song boasts the contributions of Africans in molding " civilisation" and asks historians to correct the lies of the past, and present the true story of the very significant role they played.

Snippets of Bethoven are merged with classic reggae.

5. Be Proud

An ode to reggae music. The song is sung in 6 different languages, demonstrating Maroghini's prowess in english, Jamaicanese, french, spanish, wolof and german. The music is a classic example of World Beat Reggae. It combs the rhythms of various cultures, "caresses" them and carries them to the unifying link---the compelling reggae beat.

Be proud was once the most requested single on the charts of a Radio Station in Zurich, Switzerland and is still fairly popular in the underground scene in some discos throughout Europe and West Africa .

6.Fly Away To Palita

The ultimate utopia. Undiluted Roots reggae.

7. Dr. Street

The universal remedy, that station most feared, yet a passage of eventuality. The music carries strains of Hard Rock tempered by the Reggae beat.

8 . Ever- Ready

A lovers rock. Are you ever ready for love? the music is a fusion of reggae with punk rock.

9. .I've Got The Feeling

A song of hope. The inevitable victory of" good" over "evil". The positive state of affairs is symbollically represented as a loved one in this song. Easy going reggae.

10. .If You Wanna Leave Me

Have you ever been broken-hearted? The song echoes the feelings of unfullfilled love. Reggae cross-fertilized with hip hop.

11. Final Decision

" all men come to the Hills.....the artiste feels freedom is only gained by "going to the hills". So he will leave corruption, hate and pollution for a higher plane where khali birds sing. The music mixes slices of african sounds, a little calypso and jazz with the easy reggae rock.

12. Seven Supreme

The mystery of the 7?

7 supreme is a simplified rendition of another revelation story. the angels have come to fight babylon but the dream seams more urgent a reality, and the power of babylon, so reduced, that the potency of the arrival is a mystical dance for happy little children.

In this track Maroghini sings the tangible hope and often lapses into the pentecostal's gift of speaking in tongues.

The widely lionized Asher D, the featured Jamaican DJ, chants Maroghini's version and the venerated Robbie shakespear weaves the rhythm with his pounding Bass accompaniment.
